Caesalpinia sappan is a shrub or small tree up to 6 m
tall. Stems and branches have many thorns. Leaves
bipinnately compound, alternate. Inflorescences in terminal
and axillary panicles. Flowers yellow with red line inside,
5 petals. Wooden pod is red-brown at maturity with pointed
end. Flowering in June – September. This plant can be
propagated by seed.
