Acaulescent, caespitose palm with about 5-10 stems per cluster. Deciduous. leaves ca. 10-15 per stem, pinnate. Leaf sheath 193 cm long, with spines gathered in clusters of 1-7. Petiole triangular in CS to subterets, shallowly grooved above with minute spines. Leaf rachis 3.2 m long. Leaflets 2 x 42, 4-6 x 30-98 cm, glabrous below, above with small spines along the major veins. Inflorescence terminal, compact, partly hidden amongst the leaves. Female inflorescence erect. Young fruits globose and reddish brown. Peduncle 20-30 cm long. Peduncular bract c. 10 cm long. Rachis 10-14 cm long. Mature fruit pyriform, c. 6-8 cm in diameter. |
