Habitat: It is grows in the hill evergreen forests of limestone hills at 90-160 m a.s.l. Rhizomatous perennial herb up to 80 cm tall. Rhizome globose to ovoid, white cream internally, aromatic, very bitter with cool and weak pungent in taste. Leafy shoot with 3(-4) leaves when flowering; Leafless sheaths plain green to brownish red, puberulent; Leaf sheaths white cream to pale greenish cream with or without reddish patch at upper part, sometimes green tinge at apex, hyaline margin, puberulous; Petiole up to 20 cm long, canaliculated, plain green, adaxially glabrous, abaxially puberulent; Lamina plicate, adaxially dark green, shiny, adaxially puberulous, abaxially somewhat paler, densely puberulous, midrib green, adaxially glabrous, abaxially puberulent, base slightly oblique, rounded to subcordate. Inflorescence lateral, emerging before the leafy shoots; Peduncle plain light green to greenish cream; Coma bracts absent; Fertile bracts, reflexed, plain green, dark brownish red or green with brownish red at margin on both sides, glabrous on both side, Bracteoles one per flower, narrowly oblong to triangular, widening at base, falcate, boat shaped, hyaline, semi-translucent white, almost glabrous, with sparsely stipitate hair at tip. Flowers exserted from the bracts, yellow; Floral tube narrowly funnel-shaped distally, externally bright yellow, glabrous, internally yellow, glabrous at basal part with ring of dense bright yellow hair; Dorsal corolla lobe concave, hooded, yellow, glabrous, apex mucronate; Lateral corolla lobes hooded, yellowish cream to yellow on both sides, semi-translucent, hyaline margin, glabrous; Labellum apex pointing downward, yellow with bright yellow median composed of swollen central lines; Lateral staminodes bright yellow, apex slight straight, puberulent on both sides; Filament yellow, semi-translucent, abaxially pubescent throughout, adaxially glabrous; Anther spurred, obtuse apex, wide at base, connective yellow, abaxially pubescent throughout, adaxially glabrous, Anther spurs pointing straight downward, white cream, glabrous in both sides, Anther crest absent; Epigynous glands two, white cream, cylindrical, with irregularly pointed apex; Ovary ovoid, white. Fruits globular to subglobular, irregularly dehiscing capsule, white cream to greenish cream, sparsely hair throughout, containing up to 50 seeds; Seeds irregularly obovoid, light brown, shiny, enclosed in semi-translucent white aril. |
