Clump-forming herb growing densely on steep bank by road. Stems 1 m tall, leaning over with terminal inflorescence turning up to vertical position. Plants on deeper shade showing more silver on upper leaf surfaces. Flowers visited by a round-bodied bee. Leaves 11-22/shoot with silver cloud along midrib above, glacous below. Bracts and bracteoles early caduous, bracts sometimes absent. Ovary green, rest of flowers orange-yellow without spot on lip. Flowers narrow with long, narrow lateral staminoides. Fruits green, dehiscent in 3 valves. Large ants were observed feeding on the arils and may move the seeds. Bulbils not seen in largeants were observed feeding on the arils and may move the seeds. Bulbils not seen in large population. Anther appendage on lower flowers are more divergent and more deeply divied; those on upper flowers are more dibergent and more deeply divied; those on upper flowers are united for half their length. Ovaries on lower flowers are longer, broader than those of upper flower. Fruits are always on lower cincinni, usually in 1st or 2nd position. |
