The Technical and Research Department (TRD) is responsible for various activities concerning research, conservation, and education in botany and related fields.

The Herbarium: Although it is a relatively young herbarium of Thailand (est. 1994), the QBG Herbarium is the third largest herbarium of the country with its collection over 20,000 specimens at the moment. The collection has material of native and exotic species with the emphasis on plants of Southeast Asia. The Sanga Sabhasri Library is also located within the Herbarium.

The Natural Science Museum: The QBG Natural Science Museum was opened to the public on April 10, 1999. It is now closed for construction purposes. When it reopens the museum will explore the world of plants, insects, animals as well as human heritage through permanent and temporary exhibitions.

The Laboratory Center: Responsible for various activities concerning biodiversity conservation. Laboratory works include in vitro conservation and molecular genetic studies of native orchids, seed collection of wild species, essential oil extraction, etc.
