ลักษณะ :

ไม้ต้นสูงถึง 8 เมตร ใบ เดี่ยว ออกตรงกันข้าม รูปรีหรือแกม ขอบขนาน กว้าง 13-13.5 ซม. ยาว 31-36 ซม. ปลายใบแหลม หรือทู่ โคนใบรูปลิ่ม เส้นใบเชื่อมกันบริเวณริมขอบใบ ผิวมัน ดอก สีแดงสด ออกเป็นช่อกระจุกบริเวณซอกใบยาวถึง 4 ซม. ฐานรองดอกเจริญเป็นรูปถ้วย สูงประมาณ 1.4 ซม. กลีบรองดอก 4 กลีบ รูปเกือบกลม กลีบด้านนอก มีขนาดเล็กกว่ากลีบด้านใน กลีบดอก 4 กลีบ รูปมนกลม กว้าง 8-9 มม. เกสรผู้จำนวนมาก ยาว 15-17 มม. ก้านเกสรเมีย ยาว 21 มม. ผล สีแดงสดหรือแกมม่วง รูปเกือบกลมแกมขอบขนาน ผิวมัน ขนาด 4-6 ซม.

Characteristics :

Tree, up to 8 m high. Leaves simple, opposite, elliptic to oblong elliptic, 31-36 cm long by 13-13.5 cm wide, shinny; base cuneate; apex acute or obtuse; intramarginal veins distinct. Inflorescence fasciculate panicle, axillary, up to 4 cm long. Flowers bright red; hypanthial cup-shaped, ca 1.4 cm high; calyx 4, suborbicular, the outer lobes smaller than the inner lobes; corolla 4, orbicular, 8-9 mm wide; stamens numerous, 15-17 mm long; style 21 mm long. Fruit bright red to purplish-red, subglobose or oblong-globose, shinny, 4-6 cm in diameter.

มีถิ่นกำเนิดบริเวณภาคใต้ตอน ล่างของประเทศไทย มาเลเซียและอินโดนีเซีย ปัจจุบันพบปลูก ทั่วทุกภาคของประเทศไทย ออกดอกช่วงเดือนกุมภาพันธ์-เมษายน

Distribution :

Native to southern Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, a well-know delicious fruit popularly cultivated all over Thailand. Flowering from February to April.
