ไม้เถา ลำต้นและกิ่งก้าน มีหนามแหลม ใบ เป็นใบประกอบ แบบขนนกสองชั้น ออกตรงข้าม ใบย่อย 6-12 คู่ รูปรีแกมขอบขนาน กว้าง 10-18 มม. ยาว 25-40 มม. โคนใบเบี้ยว หูใบรูปขอบขนาน ยาว 8 มม. ดอก สีขาวอมเหลืองจางๆ ออกเป็นช่อเดี่ยวหรือ แตกแขนงที่ปลายยอด ดอกย่อยมีจำนวนมาก ขนาด 1-2 ซม. กลีบรองดอก 5 กลีบ ขนาดไม่เท่ากัน กลีบดอก 5 กลีบ ขนาด ไม่เท่ากัน รูปค่อนข้างกลม กลีบบนสีออกแดง มีขนาดเล็ก เกสรผู้ 10 อัน ก้านชูอับเรณูมีขน รังไข่มีขนตามแนวตะเข็บ ผล เป็นฝัก รูปรีแกมขอบขนาน กว้าง 4-4.5 ซม. ยาว 10-15 ซม. ปลายแหลมงอน ฝักอ่อนสีเขียว มีขนปกคลุมหนาแน่น เมื่อแก่ขนจะแข็งเป็นหนาม สีน้ำตาลดำ แตกตามรอยตะเข็บข้าง มี 6-8 เมล็ด สีดำ รูปรี

Climber armed with sharp spines. Leaves bi-pinnately compound; pinnae opposite; leaflets 6-12 pairs, opposite, elliptic-oblong, 25-40 mm long by, 10-18 mm wide; base oblique; stipule linear-oblong, 8 mm long. Inflorescence terminal raceme, many flowered. Flowers creamy-white to yellowish up to 2 cm in diameter; calyx 5, unequal; corolla 5, unequal, standard reddish and smaller than others; stamens 10; filament hairy; ovary hairy along the sutures. Pod dehiscing along the ridge, elliptic-oblong, 10-15 cm long by 4-4.5 cm wide, apex with curved beak, immature green later turn brownish-black and with sharp spines. Seeds 6-8, black, ellipsoid.

India, Southern China, Myanmar, Indochina to Taiwan. In Thailand, found only in the northern region by the edges of evergreen forests. Flowering and fruiting all year round.
