ไม้พุ่ม สูง 1-1.5 เมตร ลำต้นเกือบเกลี้ยง ใบ เดี่ยว เรียงเวียน สลับ รูปแผ่เกือบกลม ขนาด 6-10 ซม. ปลายใบแหลม โคนใบเว้า รูปหัวใจ ขอบใบหยักตื้น ผิวใบด้านล่างมีขน บริเวณโคนเส้นกลาง ใบมีต่อม ดอก สีเหลืองสด ออกเป็นช่อที่ปลายยอด ยาว 6-12 ซม. ใบประดับเป็นกาบรูปไข่ ดอกบานเต็มที่กว้างประมาณ 10 ซม. มีริ้วประดับ ปลายแยกเป็น 5 แฉก มีขน กลีบดอก 5 กลีบ เรียงเวียน ซ้อนกัน ส่วนโคนเชื่อมกัน ใจกลางดอกมีแต้มสีม่วงเข้ม เกสรผู้ จำนวนมาก เชื่อมกันเป็นหลอด ก้านเกสรเมียปลายแยก 5 แฉก ผล รูปกระสวย กว้าง 2 ซม.ยาวถึง 3 ซม. ผลแก่แตกตามสันยาว เมล็ดขนาดเล็ก รูปไต
Shrub, 1-1.5 m high; stem subglabrous. Leaves simple, alternate, suborbicular, 6-10 cm wide, hispid on lower surface, base with an ovoid gland; base cordate; apex acute; margin shallowly dentate. Inflorescence terminal raceme, 6-12 cm long. Flowers bright yellow, 8-10 cm acoss; bracteole spathaceous; epicalyx 5, tomentose; corolla 5, imbricate, purplish-black blotch at center; stamens numerous, united as a column; stigmas 5. Fruit loculicidal capsule, spindle shped, up to 3 cm long. Seeds reniform, small.

Southeast Asia. In Thailand, found in deciduous forest in the north, northeast and central regions, up to elevations of 500 m. Flowering from August to October.
