พืชล้มลุกอายุหลายปี สูง ๓๐ – ๙๐ ซม. ทุกส่วนอวบนํ้า มีนํ้ามัน หอมระเหย และมีขนอ่อนๆ ปกคลุมหนาแน่น ใบเดี่ยว เรียงตรงข้าม แบบสลับ มีกลิ่นหอม ดอกออกเป็นช่อรอบแกนช่อที่ปลายยอด ยาว ๑๐ – ๒๐ ซม. สีม่วงอ่อน ออกดอกช่วงเดือนเมษายน – กรกฎาคม ขยายพันธุ์โดยการเพาะเมล็ด หรือปักชำต้น
Plectranthus amboinicus is a perennial succulent herb, fleshy and highly aromatic, 30 – 90 cm tall. The whole parts are densely covered with soft hairs. Leaves are simple, decussate, with distinctive smells. Inflorescences are in terminal racemes, 10 – 20 cm long Flowers are pale purplish in dense whorls. Flowering in April – July. This plant can be propagated by seed and cutting.

The leaves are often eaten raw or used as flavoring agents and also used as ingredients of traditional food. It is also used in traditional medicine, especially for the treatment of coughs.
