ไม้พุ่มสูง ๑.๕ – ๒ ม. ใบเดี่ยว เรียงสลับ รูปไข่ถึงรูปใบหอก ดอกแยกเพศ ออกเป็นช่อกระจุกจากซอกใบ ไม่มีกลีบดอก ผลรูปทรงกลม มีสันจางๆ ๖ สัน ขนาด ๑.๕ ซม. เมื่อแก่แล้วแตกเป็น ๓ พู ออกดอกช่วงเดือนเมษายน – กรกฎาคม ขยายพันธุ์โดยการเพาะเมล็ดหรือปักชำต้น

Characteristics :

Sauropus androgynous is a monoecious shrub, usually 1.5 – 2 m tall. Leaves simple, alternate, ovate-lanceolate. Inflorescences in a dense axillary fascicle. Flowers unisexual, without corolla. Fruits are globose to faintly 6 angulars, 1.5 cm in diameter, dehiscent with 3-valves. Flowering in April – July. It can be propagated by seed or stem cutting.

Uses and Utilization :

Young shoots are boiled before eating with chilli sauce and cooked in many local foods. However, the plant is reported about respiration trouble after having in Japan and Taiwan.
