ไม้ล้มลุกอายุปีเดียว สูงได้ถึง 1.5 เมตร ลำต้นเป็นเหลี่ยม มีขนอ่อนนุ่มปกคลุม ใบ เป็นใบประกอบ แบบมีใบย่อย 5 ใบ ยาวไม่เท่ากัน รูปขอบขนาน ปลายมน ใบตรงกลางยาวที่สุดประมาณ 10 ซม. ผิวใบด้านล่างและก้านใบมีขนนุ่ม ดอก สีเหลือง ออกเป็นช่อ ตั้งจากปลายยอด ยาว 15-20 ซม. ดอกย่อยรูปดอกถั่ว ขนาดประมาณ 2 ซม. กลีบรองดอกสีเขียว ปลายแยกเป็นแฉก กลีบดอก 5 กลีบ กลีบบนสุดแผ่กว้าง รูปกลม ตรงกลางเว้าตื้นๆ กลีบข้างรูปขอบขนาน งุ้มกลีบล่าง กลีบล่างเชื่อมติดกันคล้ายรูปท้องเรือ เกสรผู้ 10 อัน รังไข่รูปยาวรีผิวเกลี้ยง ผล เป็นฝักโป่งพอง รูปขอบขนาน โค้ง กว้าง 1.5-2 ซม. ยาว 5-6 ซม. เมล็ดรูปไต ขนาดเล็ก สีน้ำตาลดำ

Erect, perennial herb, up to 1.5 m high; stem angulate, appressed puberulous. Leaves 5-foliolate; leaflets unequal. Oblong, puberulous beneath, the middle longest, up to 10 cm; apex retuse; petiole appressed puberulous. Inflorescence elongated raceme, terminal or in the upper leaf axils, 15-20 cm long. Flowers yellow, pea-shaped, up to 2 cm across; calyx green, lobes oblong-mucronate; corolla 5, standard suborbicular, emarginated at apex, wings oblong, enveloping the curved keels; stamens 10, monadelphous; ovary oblong, glabrous. Pod broadly clavate-oblong, inflated, 5-6 cm long; 1.5-2 cm wide; Seeds reniform, small, dark brown.
