ไม้พุ่มถึงไม้ต้นขนาดเล็ก สูงได้ถึง 8 เมตร ใบ เป็นใบ ประกอบแบบขนนก ใบย่อยรูปไข่ถึงรูปไข่กลับ กว้าง 2-8 ซม. ยาว 9-30 ซม. ปลายใบแหลมทู่ โคนใบสอบ ผิวใบเกลี้ยง มีหูใบ แผ่เป็นแผ่น รูปเกือบกลม ขนาดกว้าง 2-3.5 ซม. เรียงเวียน ซ้อนกันบริเวณโคนก้านใบใกล้ปลายยอด ดอก สีขาวครีม ออกเป็น ช่อห้อย ยาวถึง 75 ซม. แยกเพศ ดอกบานกว้าง 5-7 มม. กลีบรองดอก 4 กลีบ รูปเกือบกลม กลีบดอก 4 กลีบ เกสรผู้ 5-8 อัน รังไข่มี 2 ช่อง ผล รูปไข่ถึงรูปรีป้อม สีม่วงดำถึงออกแดง ผิวเกลี้ยงมักมี 2 เมล็ด
Shrub or small tree, up to 8 m high. Leaves imparipinnate; leaflets ovate to obovate, 9-30 cm long by 2-8 cm wide, glabrous on both surfaces; base attenuate; apex obtuse to acuminate; pseudo-stipule suborbicular, 2-3.5 cm wide, spirally arranged around the shoot. Inflorescence cauliflorous, thyrsoid, up to 75 cm long. Flowers creamy white, unisexual, 5-7 mm across; calyx 4, suborbicular; corolla 4; stamens 5-8; ovary 2 locular. Fruit drupaceous, ovoid to broad ellipsoid, dark red to purplish-black, glabrous. Seeds usually 2.
