ไม้ยืนต้น เรือนยอดเป็นพุ่มกว้าง สูงได้ถึง 10 เมตร กิ่งก้าน มีขน ใบ เดี่ยว เรียงสลับในระนาบเดียว รูปใบหอกถึงรูปขอบขนาน กว้าง 1.5-4 ซม. ยาว 5-10 ซม. ผิวใบมีขนสากปกคลุม ขอบใบหยัก ปลายใบแหลม โคนใบเบี้ยว ดอก สีขาว ออกเดี่ยวๆตามซอกใบ ดอกบานเต็มที่กว้าง 1.5-2 ซม.กลีบรองดอกรูปหอก 5 กลีบ ส่วนปลายเรียวแหลม กลีบดอกรูปไข่ 5 กลีบ ปลายกลีบมนกลม หลุดร่วงง่าย เกสรผู้สีเหลือง จำนวนมาก ติดเรียงเป็นวงรอบรังไข่ ผล รูปทรงกลม ขนาดประมาณ 1 ซม. สีเขียว เมื่อสุกสีแดงเข้ม มีเมล็ดขนาดเล็กจำนวนมาก
Tree, umbrella-like crown, up to 10 m high; branchlets pubescent. Leaves simple, distichous, lanceolate-oblong, 5-10 cm long by 1.5-4 cm wide, pubescent; base oblique; apex acute; margin serrate. Inflorescence solitary, axillary. Flowers white, 1.5-2 cm wide; calyx 5, lanceolate, apex acuminate; corolla 5, ovate, obtuse at apex, caducous; stamens numerous, yellow, spirally arranged around the ovary. Fruit berry, globose, ca 1 cm, green and turn dark red when mature. Seeds small, many.

Native to tropical America. In Thailand, widely cultivated throughout the country for shade plants. Flowering and fruiting almost all year round.
ผลสุกรับประทานได้ และนิยมปลูกริมทาง เพื่อให้ร่มเงา
Fruit is edible and very good for birds.
