ลักษณะ :

ไม้ต้นสูงถึง 20 เมตร ใบ เดี่ยว ออกตรงข้ามเป็นคู่ รูปรี หรือรูปหอกแกมขอบขนาน กว้าง 6.5-8.3 ซม. ยาว 20-32 ซม. ปลายใบเรียวแหลม โคนใบเว้ารูปหัวใจหรือมนกลม เส้นใบเชื่อมกับ บริเวณขอบใบ ดอก สีขาว ออกเป็นกระจุกช่อที่ปลายกิ่งหรือซอกใบ ยาวถึง 5 ซม. ดอกย่อยบานกว้างถึง 5 ซม. ฐานรองดอกเจริญ เป็นรูปถ้วยสูง 15-23 มม. ผิวนอกเป็นสัน กลีบรองดอก 4 กลีบ ปลายกลีบมนกลม กลีบดอก 4 กลีบ รูปกลม เกสรผู้จำนวนมาก ยาว 2.4-3.3 ซม. ก้านเกสรเมียยาวกว่าเกสรผู้ ผล รูปทรงกลม ผิวมัน ขนาด 4.2-6 ซม. ผิวนอก เป็นสัน เมล็ดขนาดเล็กจำนวนมาก

Characteristics :

Tree, up to 20 m high. Leaves simple, opposite, elliptic to lanceolate-oblong, 20-32 cm long by 6.5-8.3 cm wide; base rounded to cordate; apex acute to acuminate; intramarginal veins distinct. Inflorescence axillary and terminal panicle, up to 5 cm long. Flowers white, up to 5 cm across; hypanthial cup-shaped, ridges, 15-23 mm high; calyx 4, rounded; corolla 4, orbicular; stamens numerous, 2.4-3.3 cm long; style exceeding the stamens. Fruit globose, ridges, shinny, 4.2-6 cm. Seeds many, small.

อินเดีย บังคลาเทศ จีน และเมียนม่าห์ ประเทศไทยพบทุกภาคตามริมลำธาร บริเวณ ป่าผลัดใบหรือป่าดงดิบ ที่ระดับความสูง 50-1,450 เมตร ออกดอกช่วงเดือนมีนาคม-พฤษภาคม

Distribution :

India, Bangladesh, China and Myanmar. In Thailand, found throughout the country, along streams in deciduous and evergreen forests, at elevations of 50-1,450 m. Flowering from March to May.
