Lablab purpureus is a perennial climber, usually
1.5 – 3 m long. Leave pinnately compound, alternate, broadly
ovate. Inflorescences in axillary racemes, with white or purple
flowers. Pods oblong-falcate, flat, 4 – 6 cm long. Seeds 3 – 5,
white, purple or purplish-black. This species is very variable
and with many selected cultivars by the natives. Flowering
in April – August. It can be propagated by seed.
