ไม้เถาเลื้อยมีมือเกาะ เจริญเติบโตข้ามปีได้ ใบเดี่ยว เรียงสลับรูปคล้ายสามเหลี่ยม เว้าเป็นพูตื้นๆ ดอกแยกเพศสีขาวอมเขียว ออก เป็นช่อจากซอกใบ ผลสีเขียวอ่อนรูปไข่ มีเนื้อหนา ภายในมีเมล็ดขนาดใหญ่ ๑ เมล็ด ออกดอกช่วงเดือนพฤศจิกายน – กุมภาพันธ์ ขยายพันธุ์โดยการเพาะเมล็ด

Characteristics :

Sechium edule is a perennial climbing herb with tendrils. Leaves are simple, alternately arranged, broadly triangulate, with shallow lobes. Inflorescences are in axillary cluster with greenish white flowers. Fruit is pale green ovoid shaped, fleshy, and contains a single large seed. Flowering in November – February. This plant can be propagated by seed.

นิยมใช้ยอดอ่อนและผล ลวกจิ้มนํ้าพริก ผัดนํ้ามันหอย หรือเป็นผักใส่ในแกง

Uses and Utilization :

The young shoots and fruits are popularly eaten with chilli sauces after boiled, stir fries with oil and cooked in curry.
