Habitat: edge of degraded evergreen hardwood forest and stairway to the temple, granite bedrock. Evergreen tree, 14 m tall, dbh 55 cm. Bark pale grown with large corky lenticels, inner bark thick and soft, orange fast changing to very dark orange upon exposure, wood light yellow. Infructescence axes red to dull red, calyx (2 rows) brownish green with silvery white hairs. Fruit (approx. 6-8 mm) glossy green (immature) to glossy black (mature), seed dark brown to back, fruit gragrant. Leaf blades dark green above, pale green below, with yellowish white hairs especially on midveins. Uncommon. |
