Shrub ca 50 cm tall or (rarely) woody twiner to 2.5 m tall in trees. Sap not milky; leaves thick and stiff, medium green above, paler below due to coating of whitish hairs. Fruits terminal in stems; calyx dark brown, reflexed; pericarp dark brown, with no valves visible, but opening circum around middle below equator; seeds 4 (or less), not filling space inside pericarp, coated in white material and sticking together. Karen informant says that 2-3 leaves are boiled in water and the liquid is drunk when food has been eaten that makes one sick. Same liquid is also used to treat fever. |
