Habitat: shady and moist area at base of steep limestone cliffs and evergreen hardwood forest, growing rock crevices filled with organic matter, limestone bedrock. Perennial deciduous (epilithic) herb, up to 20 cm tall. Tuber orange-brown, roots light brown. Base stem (petiole) dark red with faint white dashes, rest stem dull green and red with some coarse white hairs. Inflorescence axes bright red at base, rest of the axes light green, pedicels dull yellow with faint red dashes. Flowers white with red glandular hairs on the outside especially along the middle section of the petals, stamen bright yellow. Leaf blades dark green and brownish dark green with broad irregular silvery green-white bands near the margins above, light red-green below. Common. |
