Perennial herb ca. 6-8 m high; pseudostems dull reddish black. Petiole with leaf sheath. Leaves dark green. Inflorescence terminal, pendulous; bract outer involute, dull purplish red, dark yellow inside. Flowers 2 rows per bract, yellow. Compound tepals orange yellow. Free tepal opposite and insert in compound, white. Filament white; anther orange yellow. Ovary yellowish white; style white; stigma capitate, orange yellow. Fruits with rubber, pale green with pinkish red; seeds numerous, brown. |
